Reclaimation of racing gears
YOUR DAMAGED and worn DOG GEARS
Over a period of time, and for several reasons, the edges of the dogs wear rendering the gear useless and ultimately making it  impossible to hold a gear. Until now these ratios were discarded.
It is generally the engagement and disengagement of the gear that causes the damage providing of course that the gearbox is correctly setup.
These days GearReclaim effectively extends the life of your gears, and before the damage gets too bad it is possible to have the angle and undercut of the dogs reground, and your gears will be as good as new.
This is exactly what GearReclaim does with NO compromise to the structure of the gear.  (see REPORT BELOW)
Dog rings also sustain damage but they are generally available at relatively low cost.  Gear ratios are not.  We are happy to service the dog rings if requested to do so.

Each gear is individually assessed and accurately measured.  We start where the damage is worst, and all the dogs are reground to that corrected measurement.  Special high accuracy jigs are used to ensure that on completion  ALL the dogs are in alignment so that the drive is taken EQUALLY on all of them and not just one.

Special diamond tools regrind the contact edges of every dog to the correct angle and undercut.

This process in no way compromises the hardness or structure of the gear or in any way increases the wear rate,  all we do is prolong the life of the gear, making gear changes slick and fast and the process can be carried out many times.
Only the damaged area is removed. The undercut contact surface does not wear because it only takes the drive contact. The selection of the gear still takes place on the original hardened face of the dog.

Lateral strength when gears lock together remains unaffected.

We have used this process for over 10 years in cars producing up to 1000 hp and over 800 lbs ft of torque.
We have NEVER had a single problem due to this process.

We never interfere with the hardened top surface of the gear where they initially contact each other before you “get the gear”
Turn around times are two to four weeks currently dependant upon quantity.  Carriage is NOT included in the above figures.

We sent away a random selection of 11 dog gears and dog rings from various manufacturers for independent measuring and analysis. Briefly  -  the report came back as follows.
“All measurements of angle were taken using a Sigmascope optical projector. Hardness tests were conducted using the Rockwell scale.
There was a variance in dog tooth height, angle and crest radius from one to another including gears of the same type, ie FT, DG and LG
Tooth height varied between 0.143” to 0.199”
Angles varied between 4.0 degrees and 6 degrees 45 minutes
Crest radii varied between 0.024” and 0.047”
Random dog gears were used for hardness testing as these items had been re-ground below the surface when restoring the undercuts.
Tests on the unground areas of these gears showed a hardness of 60 – 61Rc.  Tests on the ground areas showed a hardness of 57 – 59Rc.”.
Conclusion is that the gears are not  compromised by our procedure.
